Anyone awake?
I'm awake but that is because it's 5pm here in Australia
Haven't heard of buspar sorry.
Have you tried deep breathing from your stomach? Google it, relates to mindfulness. It does help with anxiety.

Have you always suffered anxiety or is it linked to your sobriety? Xx

Unfortunately Im awake.. Can't breathe..Yes I think I've taken it before, a long time ago, but can't remember the side effects. But I know the name. I do like the ones that have been around awhile though.

I'm on citraprolam but it is gonna take another week to kick in. Dr. gave me buspirone to help with anxiety while I wait but I think it is making things worse! I've been sober for 12 days. I seem to be dropping like 1/2 pound per day. I'm a big guy, started at 275 now 264. I have been eating healthy too. I realize eating healthy and not drinking is probably the reason I'm losing weight but 1/2 pound per day is a little disturbing. I made the mistake of googling my anxiety symptoms which mimic some scary stuff so I am still "stuck" on the what ifs. Can't see a psych until mid April. SR is really the only thing keeping me halfway sane.
Citalopram changed my life. I've been on it for about five years now and will probably never come off it. But you're right - it does take a little while to settle. Plus one of the side effects can be increased anxiety and suicidal thoughts in the early days, so it could just be that, not your other meds. My doc gave me a very low done of diazepam for my first week.
How are you feeling now? Are you settling? Xxx

Yes I'm in the states...the doc wants to give the anxiety meds time to kick in before we go any further. American docs hate prescribing benzos but I think I could really benefit from them at this point.Im doing better. I have a habit of being hyper focused on how I feel and any physical symptoms I have may be amplified by this.
Hi albyalbright
I've never taken anti anxiety meds so I have no experience to share.
Breathing exercises have helped me a lot with panic attacks tho.

Don't blame yourself - being hyper-focussed comes with the anxiety
Glad you're feeling a little better. One last thing - a high protein diet is great for anxiety. Low sugar, avoid starchy carbs, no caffeine. Your body and brain will both appreciate homeostasis.

I tried the no caffeine thing and I started getting headaches! So I have started back to my old habit of at least one energy drink per day which has about 2-3 cups of coffee in it. Not good I know....

I've been on Buspar, didn't do anything for me (besides giving me brain-zaps). I can't say that any meds besides benzo's really helped but that's risky for people that have a tendency to become addicted. I've been anxiety-free and off meds for almost 20 years though, so maybe there are new types of meds available now.

Everyone is different on these meds. I took Zoloft and walked around clenching my teeth for 2 weeks. Tried Lexapro and barely had any side effects.
But diet is the key!! Lean protein, lots of fruit and veggies, low salt. Hard to do!
Gradual change is best or you might feel deprived.
Also, the weight loss could be fluid. Maybe call your doctor's nurse?
Good Luck!!!
