I'm glad you're back and I hope you can add something to your recovery program so that it doesn't happen again.

Just got super stressed out and did not manage it well. Funny I don't crave alcohol, but it is my go when the going gets tough.

I guess I'm sort of going through something like that with the tobacco. A lot of what I have to watch out for feels habitual. I experience a situation that stresses me and I reach for the cigarettes. They are not there. I have time to be aware of the cravings and they pass. And it happens again. I don't think having tobacco around would help.

Hi an welcoem Oscar

this community really saved my bacon a few times. There was something about people who know what I was going through that helped.

Post and read as much as you need to...look at what others are doing to stay sober...you're not alone

Good to meet you - glad you wanted to talk it over, OscarDoes.

Not all of us - but some - need this to happen. I still held on to the belief that I could control it, even after proving to myself many times that I couldn't. I also thought it was a way to cope - to calm myself - but in the end, it only added to my anxiety & misery. It wasn't worth it, was it? I think you're ready to do this.

Thank you. I am perplexed why I would do that much damage to my body. I keep asking myself - don't I love myself enough not to be so self destructive. But, I guess that is addiction. This time I really outdone myself on a week bender.

Lots of stuff at SR. How to plan sobriety- what to do. Perhaps go to meetings? AA/NA, SMART. See a counsellor. See a doctor about your health. Work out a routine for everyday. Little things help- washing, cleaning, shopping- budget. Small things lead to helping fix big things. Of course the biggie- do not drink.
Keep sharing. Also check out the 'Class of 2017- March thread '.

Right Six bottles of vodka, bruises from who knows what, a swollen eye, a few cheats along the way as the week progressed. Now to move on.

Glad you are back Oscar. Why don't you join the March of 2017 class. It helps to have others at the same point in recovery.

Hang in there, you can do this, and sobriety is worth it!!

Made it though day one. Thank you for all of your support. You all are the best. BTW, a few withdrawal symptoms - more anxiety than anything. Taking a ton of vitamins and supplements. Mike Thistle, Dandalion, alternating apple cider vinegar with water, with e meregy powder with water, Sam-E,NAC, bcomplex. Not sure if that helps anyone.

Thanks you for the support. Today, I did something very strange. I wrote my obituary. Not to be negative, but to realize what I achieved to date or potentially what I have not achieved to date. In summary it went like this: Nice guy dies at 50, smart and was handsome. Good corporate salesperson- one of the best. Pretty good at facebook and a lot of fun at parties.
Now that is the most sobering exercise I have done to date. The new obit I wrote was much better for when I day old and sober.

Before I could stay sober for any considerable amount of time I had to learn how to deal with stress and hard times without running to the bottle.

One of the big keys to staying sober for I also drank a couple of times when I didn't have coping skills.

Simple one for me -- take a walk and get away and straighten out my thoughts.
