I don't know here to begin

Hi!

I'm Jodi. I come from a family that accepts low performing people at the expense of the high performing ones. What?!? It's the law of averages, right?!? Oh, why are we asking you? It is what it is. One child earns her way, while the other relies on mom her whole life. Cool, right?!? Not to me.....the daughter who does not live on Mom's boob at 36 years old. I am 38 about to be 39. I moved out at 17 and never went back. My sister, on the other hand, is 36 about to be 37 and has never lived on her own. She is severely addicted to alcohol. I cannot dissuade my mom from caring for her. I am an LCSW in California. WTF?!? I need help, and am not afraid to admit it anymore.

Hi and welcome Jodi :)

I can see how that might be difficult for you.

If you've done all you can to dissuade your mom, whats the next step do you think? your peace of mind maybe?

It sounds like you'll only get that from stepping away.

I know you'll find support here, both in this forum and our Family and Friends forums.
