Be committed Weekender 17-19 Feb
At the weekend people like us face a double whammy, time on our hands and an expectation that we should be sociable. On their own, either of these things can cause trouble but in combination they frequently prove to be a recipe for relapse.
Often our mind may be screaming at us to obtain and consume drink or drugs even though the more rational or intellectual part of us knows that wanting is not the same as needing and that drinking or using will not be good for us at all.
One way to bypass the relentless but rather stupid monster that is our addiction is by distraction, to be fully engaged and concentrating on some other activity or project.
I tried and failed to get sober any number of times in the past but after joining SR and as a part of my "plan" I spent most of my non working hours restoring an old car (I would update people on this thread repeatedly whether they were interested or not). Sometimes I really enjoyed it and at other times it was a real chore but in either event it did require a commitment and a degree of concentration that meant I did not crave booze while I was working on it.
Anyone can do something similar. It need not be a hobby or pastime, i'm sure it could also be something like home improvements or equally it could be self improvement like studying for an academic or vocational qualification. Things that don't require a ton of cash. This not only relieves us of cravings in early recovery but improves our physical, social or financial status. As a by product it also gives us an additional reason or excuse to avoid drinking or drugging with other people.
What's there to lose?
Let's have a grrreat weekend!

Good morning! Page 1 at least.
I just recently posted somewhere that my DYI drive is returning. I use to do a lot of things from minor repairs to major home renovations. I've started doing more projects around the house - and there are a lot to do. The main one I'm working on is a wired surveillance system. I've also been putting in a lot of extra time at work. It's nice to be able to work late or on the weekend with out thinking about getting home for a drink.

I love starting the new weekend on Thursday. It seems so like a bunch of alcoholics! I am definitely committed! This will be my second weekend! Wow! My project right now is improving my health. Physical and mental. I like the idea of having another project, too. I'm going to try to think up something marvelous.
I nearly forgot to mention. It's a long weekend here in Manitoba. Louis Riel day on Monday. He was a founding father of Manitoba, rebellious against the Canadian government and fighter of metis rights. So they hung him.

Another reminder to read everything carefully instead of seeing the first letter and assuming I know what it's all about
My rhinitis got worse because of cold and it drives me crazy.
