Poured it down the drain

I just poured a $30 bottle of bourbon down the drain. I won't lie, I bought a handle last night. It sat on my counter all night as I went round and round in my head. It was like a pros vs. cons argument, round and round. For the first time ever, the cons won.

I tried to return it to the liquor store but they don't do returns. The lost money makes me sick, but at least I'm sober. I feel relieved, but empty inside.

GOOD WORK!!!
What triggered the buy, BlueDog? Could you figure out how to back up the bus so you don't get that far next time?

I am not one to brag...I'm still backing up my own busses!!

And how can you feel less empty NOW? Call a friend? Watch something funny on video/Netflix? Go for a walk? EAT something sinful??

Congratulations on not drinking the bottle.
I've poured more booze down the drain than a normal person drinks in a year.
While noble, I'm afraid it never stopped me from drinking.
They kept making it and I kept buying it.
It took action, like coming here and going to AA.
Do you have an Idea of what you can do to stay sober? Because I guarantee you, although the liquor store doesn't give refunds, they'll be happy to sell you more. And with me, they did.
I hope you don't have to reach the lows I did before you stop.
Best to you.

I had to want to be sober more than I
wanted to drink.

I had the intent to get in my car, drive
to the store. Park the car. Walk all the
way in, to the isle with the poison I wanted.
Walked to the counter, paid for my poison.
Watched as they bagged it. Grab it, walked
all the way back to my car. Drive home with
it. Pull in the driveway. Walk in the house.
Let it sit there on the counter and drive myself
crazy looking at it. Knowing that poison is in
my home, starring at me.

HOW CRAZY IS THAT ?????

Before any of that crazy sick thinking would
get to far in my brain, I would have called
someone, like a sponsor or got in my car
and driven myself to a meeting BUT NEVER

would have I driven myself to a liquor store
to buy poison.

All that trouble I put myself thru to only
throw it away......or worse than that, to
drink it, and die. My azz would have reached
for those recovery tools taught to me to use
in just such an emergency.

Since I couldn't nor wouldn't remain sober
on my own, I was placed in the hands of those
in a rehab facility, away from poison for 28
day to teach me about my addiction and receive
some valuable information that would and did
save my life a many one days sober ago.

Addiction is serious and deadly and hope
you get the help you need and want.

Way to go, bluedog!
Sorry the store wouldn't refund...but think of it this way – how many times have we all woken up after a night of drinking where we would've given ANYTHING to not feel the pain/shame/guilt etc we were feeling that morning?
30 dollars? I'm with Dee....a solid investment towards recovery
