Friday night. Staying in. No booze in the apartment.
If I make it to tomorrow, it'll be the first time I've gone 6 days without an alcoholic beverage in about 10 years. It'll be the first time I won't have gotten black-out drunk on a Friday night in about the same amount of time.
I'm feeling really anxious, really tense and on edge, I could literally inhale a pint of kronenburg right now. But I'm gonna stay strong and stay home.
Thankfully, there is snowfall in Toronto right now which makes the prospect of going out particularly unpleasant. So I guess I'll stay in and watch Golden State vs Memphis Grizzlies.

My first Friday night sober was kind of tough because I didn't make a plan to keep myself otherwise occupied.
Sounds great you have a game to watch! Stock up on some yummy munchies, as well and keep your head in your sober game!
You won't regret this

Thanks 2nd, I think I will probably need to spend the evening rambling to whoever will listen this weekend. I feel like absolute crap right now, but I guess you got to start somewhere.
Sober on a Friday night, this is still so weird to me.
What is it normal, decent people do on a Friday night? I can't even imagine what to do with the time when I'm not drinking.

Hehe thanks grymt.
I think tomorrow I need to think of a better plan than just hunkering in my alcohol free bunker. I'm starting to think my body is figuring out what I'm up to because I feel really tense and anxious.

Hi Pete6256,
I'm on day 6 too, and this is my first Fri. night sober in a long time as well.
I quit wine for 5 years, then started again a few years ago. I also quit for the entire month of March 2016.
Each time I started again, I was drinking way more.
So this is my third time quitting.
I am hoping that this community will make a difference this time, in staying the course.
I'm planning to watch a movie tonight.
Good luck to both of us, Pete6256.

Exercise is a great antidote...even a long walk. Leave your wallet at home.
Distraction is a great tool in those early days. I went back and read every book I had loved as a young girl. I also binged on sports on Youtube
Every day you get through makes you stronger and more convinced that it really is possible
You can do this.

Well done on 6 days Pete and Daucuscarota. You're doing amazing and you will feel even more amazing when you wake up tomorrow morning!
I've heard that drinking hot chocolate helps with the cravings...
It will get easier in time. It's also a good time to explore things that could interest you. Sport, music, cooking a meal, reading.
Hand in there guys...

....Yeah I know, Friday nights can be really hard....I live in a small inner city area with bars and restaurants around. Friday Sat nite there is that sort of buzz...ppl around. Couples heading out for their evenings.
And I'm in here.
Solo and sober.
Get a pile of movies to watch. Indulge in food you like. If you're a reader.....buy the book you've wanted to read.
Where I am....SR goes quiet at night just when it'd be good to have it busy. There's been times when its felt like you're travelling around the dark side of the moon....out of all contact with planet earth.
But ya do come back out into the light.....and the mornings are brilliant.
Hang in there....all the best

I actually went the opposite..I drop weight when I don't drink. I eat my calories/carbs instead of drinking them. I'm also able to get up in the morning and workout..In the early days..treat yourself! Fastfood,Ice cream, whatever!! Just like anything, though..too much of anything IS bad.
