Second Day without a drink
Second Day without a drink
I decided yesterday morning that I am never going to drink again. Today, I am going to an AA meeting at one o'clock. I have been reading here, last night and this morning. It's helped a lot. I also have a book I'm reading called "Last Call". I feel ready for this. I want to get well again. I have been so sick from drinking for so long.
I've been on this forum before, but when I decided again to get sober I couldn't get logged back on. I think it's because my old email, that I used to register before, is no longer a working email address. Anyway, I am glad to be here again, glad I made it back here and back to AA, and I hope, back to sobriety.
I have to serve beer tonight at a Superbowl party. There's no way around it. But most of the people there don't drink, and I will pray and go to a meeting and I believe it will be okay.

What if you got sick and couldn't serve
beer? Then who would serve it?
Addiction is a serious illness, sickness,
disease that affects many folks and has
taken a many lives and has kept a many
sick.
You have a voice and a choice to say NO,
that you are unable to serve this poison
to others. For me, i know what alcohol is
and i know the effects it can have on folks.
I wont put my own sobriety in jeopardy
especially in early recovery when I am and
was the the most vunerable.
What's the most these people will
do if you hand off this task to another
to serve? Will they hunt you down?
These folks have no control over you
or your life. Here is the time for you
to stand up, be responsible and do what
is sooooo important to you, your healthy
and life.
Say no thank you and pass it on to another.
Is there some other place you could be
tonight? A meeting? Can you call someone
in recovery to hang out with? If you are
under the weather, you certainly wont be
able to serve.
What's more important...serving poison
or remaining sober no matter what?

Congrats on your decision. I agree with AASharon that a Super Bowl party may not be the best place to go when you're one or two days in. But many of us will be at parties and not drink - you can not drink also.

Hi Sober. Welcome back! Maybe have a lot of other drink options along with the beer, if it must be there. If you're a beer drinker, don't buy your kind of beer. You can do this. And hey, its actually about a football game right (the booze industry would like you to think otherwise)? Show those guys you can actually enjoy a sport with them manipulating you with booze!
Learning to remain sober is a job and
responsibility in itself.
For me, I wouldn't want to be responsible
or have a hand in getting others drunk,
intoxicated, driving home drunk, getting
a DWI, or killed while under the influence
of alcohol i served them earlier at a
Super Bowl party.
Just my thought to share and something
to think about.

Glad you're back!!
I'm with those who say that NOT going to anything like a party etc is the right call at this point. I'd go a step further to say there is not one single thing anyone absolutely has to go to if it endagers their sobriety- I mean a family wedding, a parent's 90th birthday, college graduation, ANYTHING. My sobriety comes before everything else. Period.
It's so early and you have made a start again, which is the necessary beginning. I hope you put a foundation to it and keep going!

I agree with the others. There is no need to go to a party and serve beer unless it is your actual job and you work in a bar. Getting sober requires some pretty serious life changes. Doing that in first few days of sobriety is asking for trouble
Gosh I'm sorry I didn't check back here. All those wise words would have been a huge help. I did end up drinking again and haven't been able to get stopped again. The serving alcohol is part of my job, but I am going to find someone else to pass it off to. It's not my whole job, just a small part of it, at parties and such. I ended up stealing a bottle of wine and drinking it from the bottle on the way home. So scary, I've never been one to drink and drive until recently. And it's not that I didn't have the money to stop and buy my own, I just couldn't wait. I did stop and buy beer.
I have to make a full stop somehow. I'll be checking in here more, I wish I had not served beer that night. As it turned out, I could have just served sodas, there was only one drinker other than me!

You might want to consider joining an SR Class; it's a great way to connect with others who are at the same stage of their efforts to achieve sobriety; I was part of the Class of February 2014; it was a great experience.

You stole/drank a bottle of wine and stopped to buy beer? You sound like me just a few months ago. Drink a bottle of wine, go buy another. I cannot tell you how much I love not drinking anymore. Good luck
