I Got The Job!

What a difference a month sober can make! I had posted early on in my darkest moments how I had to quit a really good paying job or get fired because of performance issues. That had never happened to me before. We have been tight financially but ok since I have not been spending on drinking or impulse purchases while drunk.

I had some interviews over the last month for a bunch of jobs I did not want. My background and education is in employee benefits and HR. I have come to loathe it. I did have a stint not too long ago in software. That was where I wanted to be again.

I was recently pursued by a software company for an Implementation Consultant position and after interviewing, they hired me! It is much less than I was making at the last job, but it is doing what I want and not as many hours as the management job I had to quit. That job was horrible and super stressful.

My sobriety is going great and I feel renewed. A month ago I wanted to die, and today I am glad to be alive. I am not sure I would be at this place if not for this site and everyone who reached out to me. I am committed to working hard and making this career change work and am even considering some classes again.

I never want to be in that hell ever again.

Ustacall:
I am so very happy for you! And I am sure all the other folks on SR are happy too. If you continue in sobriety the loss in salary will not be troublesome. You will get raises and things will be good for you. And less stressful. Just don't drink and hang in there. Do your best one day at a time. The sun has begun to shine on you. Your life will get brighter and brighter. Keep posting and all the good wishes in the world.

Bill

Yay!! I had virtually the same situation and now just 2 years later I am making about $10,000 more than I was at the job I had to leave. Just keep doing the next right thing. Congratulations!

Congratulations! Good things happen in sobriety!

I quit a successful but extremely stressful career several years ago. My drinking got much worse while I wasn't working full-time, while I went back to school and tried desperately to find work in a different field. But after I got sober, I re-evaluated what I wanted in a job, and now I have a job that pays a lot less, but suits me better than anything I've ever done and is WAY less stressful. I'm learning new skills, enjoying myself, and I have time to work on improving other areas of my life. Would I like to make more money? Sure. But right now, this is exactly what I need. I figure the money will work itself out somehow.

I'm very happy for you!
