AA tonight

I'm going to set aside my fear and go to a meeting at 5:30 tonight. My fear isn't the meeting itself but the thought that a client or someone I know may be there.

I've scoped out meeting each night and figure I will give it a go this week. I woke up feeling very drained and sweaty from all of the alcohol consumption this weekend.

I just want to quit drinking and stick with it. I know I can't do it alone. So this is step one.

Good luck mate. I just got home from a meeting and am feeling great. Just listen for the similarities, and read the Doctors opinion part of the big book. Explains allot about alcoholism!!!!

it can be quite a scarey feeling to run into an acquaintance or even a client. personally I think better to see them somewhere getting help then somewhere getting drunk.
I got sober in small town Michigan and had that fear. it took quite a while before I actually saw someone I knew at a meeting. beings how we had done a lot of drinking together years before, we were both glad to see each other at an AA meeting.

I feared going to AA in the beginning but now I look forward to it.

Funny thing, at last night's meeting I did run into someone I knew.

But you have to remember everyone there has a substance abuse issue and is trying to better themselves; it is nothing to be ashamed of.

I am sure if you do meet someone you know at the meeting, they will be more than pleased to meet you .

And a good one I would say.
AA sure helped me to get my oars back in the water.
You will probably be able to relate to many tonight.

Good for you on taking the action. Many of us had some concern about seeing others. I told my wife - if I go, everyone will know I have a drinking problem. She replied, honey they already know.

When we admit we are alcoholics it becomes unanimous.

I live in a tiny town and know probably 50% of the people at my local meetings. Considering my infamous antics drinking I am sure they are thrilled I am there.

Sinderos, I hope it goes well for you tonight and I'm glad that you are doing what you need to do to make this work.

Good luck at your first meeting. Anyone you meet there is attending for the same reason as you are, so try not to worry about that.

Check back and let us know how you get on. We'll be rooting for you.

I see previous clients/students and for me it just solidifies the fact that no one is exempt from alcoholism and that hopefully the site of me makes it easier for them to be there in the meeting.

I've scoped out meeting each night and figure I will give it a go this week.

Typical behavior for someone going to their 1st AA meeting.

I hid inside a large post office mail box prior to my first meeting, and peeked out the slot to make sure I didn't see anybody I knew.

Well, not really.

But I might have if the opportunity was there.

It's been almost 7 years for me, and I now walk in with my head held high. If the weather is nice, I usually hang out, outside the church after the meeting to talk with the guys. If somebody drives by and see's me there, so what ?
