Hi tiffanyeagle, the weekends were the hardest for me too. For this reason I had my entire weekend preplanned by no later than mid week before it hit.

I tried to incorporate things that would make it difficult, if not impossible for me to drink.

What is it that you like to do? Planning ahead of time helps immensely.

Weekends ?
Try to avoid bars and places that sell booze .

If your routine is to go shopping and get alcohol , go shopping on a different day , make sure the freezer / ice compartment is stocked up for the weekend , have a pijama day and stay in bed ( the fortress against alcohol) :)

If you go out for walks/runs aimlessly do not take cash or any way of purchasing alcohol .

Skip party invites or social events for a while , if you must go then take fizzey water with you or buy it and keep it in your hand or keep your glass topped up .

If you go to somewhere to eat buy a big bottle of water and have it on the table and keep your glass topped up .

go to bed early and sleep in late to let your body heal .

all things i found useful , m

ok i have sober plans yoga meetings and house projects planned - but my mind keeps going there - will it ever subside !!

soberandhonest 01-20-2017 05:44 PM

Yes!!! It will subside. And it's awesome! Keep doing what you're doing. You are making tremendous progress. Think about how great you will feel tomorrow morning when you awaken, as you have for the past few weekends, and be able to add another day to your sobriety. Congratulations on 19 days!

Just coming here and reading a few posts helps me a lot!

Hi tiffanyeagle,

Do you participate in the Weekenders threads? I find them very helpful. Weekends were always a trigger for me too.

My first sober weekend was difficult, I would even say sad. I felt an absence of something. Little by little, I'm starting to forget that I even used to spend my Friday nights drinking.

It will get better :c014:

Day 20 here. Weekends are a bitch. You just have to keep your mind busy.

D122y 01-21-2017 07:22 AM

Tiff,

It takes repetitive effort.

I drank 90%+ every Friday and Saturday for 15 years plus.

So, not drinking for them is going to be...uncomfortable.

That is the word to describe what we feel when we crave.

The crave is such a low level need in reality. We don't need to drink, we want to.

Once through detox, it is a change in lifestyle.

It is a change in routine.

I felt like holy crap periodically everyday for many many months.

It is the only way out. Otherwise, we relapse.

There are rx drugs that help, but I made it out using exercise, breathing techniques etc. No drugs.

One day at a time. Harden your will.

You have to go through the mental hell to escape the addiction. Come out the other side and never go back.

Nothing on this planet benefits from ingesting booze. It is a learned behavior.

Unlearn it.

Thanks.

Have you given AA a go?

Keep with us here. You know you are always welcome.

Tiffany,

Don't beat yourself up about it. The fact is all the research shows nearly no one does not experience relapses. It is a learning process. Learn from this and grow stronger for it. Hang in there.

August252015 01-27-2017 03:50 AM

Good morning- glad you came back.

So, it's the weekend again. What's your plan for today? Just today, this one Friday.

You can do this.

Dee74 01-27-2017 03:57 AM

Give a weekend plan some thought Tiffany - you can make a more permanent plan next week :)
