Random thought this morning
I've always wondered why recovering alcoholics wanted active alcoholics to give up the sauce. I believe like minded people have a way of finding each other which explains why I've had so many heavy drinking friends over the years. But one by one, as they became sober and started quietly and gently talking to me about my addiction, instead of listening to them I dropped them from my circle of friends. I stopped taking their calls or returning their texts. I even blocked some of them so I didn't have to read their self righteous babble about how much better life was for them and could be for me. I was fine! I had a high paying job, a roof over my head and food (and booze) on my table...I didn't need help.
I have never been more wrong about anything in my life! Since quitting drinking I have reached out to some of them and they have been nothing short of amazing. Calling and texting to check on me and helping rebuild my confidence. Their willingness to be part of my life again along with the support of the SR community makes me believe I can be successful this time.
So now I finally understand why recovering alcoholics want active alcoholics to give up the sauce because I want that too!!
Life IS so much better sober...wish I had believed that years ago...
Peace
