Not drinking
Hi, newly joined after a google search titled '53 hours alcohol detox' bought this site up! Third time of trying to quit for good. Last run was 6 months and I thought yeh I can have a drink here and there and control things! 7 months later and am trying again to rid myself of the addiction, fear and angst that this illness brings me!
Welcome Lonicera! I think I thought the same way at one point when I began drinking after 20 months of sobriety... back here, starting again. You can do it! Your life will be richer in just about everything without it. Congratulations on 53 hours!

Welcome, Lonicera!
I've been there too - went dry for almost six months and while on vacation, said "I can have just one" because I deserved it and had time off work. Well..."just one" turned into 9+ months of hell that I would not wish on anyone.
Glad you are here! Lots of good wishes on your sober journey.

Welcome to the forum. Always good to see more UK based people hopping on board.
What do you plan to do differently this time so that sobriety is more sustainable and desirable for you? Do you have a plan? If not then Dee's thread might be a good place to start....

You're lucky being based in London that there so many alternatives for meetings and recovery groups available. Have you considered SMART or AA or similar? I'm an AAer myself, although there aren't as many meetings available in my kneck of the woods as you'd have close to you. It's made a massive difference to my recovery, as has this forum.
Wishing you all the best for your sobriety and recovery. BB
PS. Hope it's not as dismal in your area today as it is here. Very uninspiring weather indeed.

I did that too, Lonicera - thought it would be safe to have 'a few'. That's when I still thought all it took was willpower. Once the first drink goes down, there is no willpower - & anything can happen. Took me a long time to get it. Now we know we can't touch the stuff. You will do this!
Past the 72 hours and other than sleep pattern is messed up I am doing ok. Thank you everyone. I was moved to tears by the welcoming support. Berrybean, I have been thinking a lot about what you suggested and am working on it. There are certainly plenty of AA meetings in London so I need to check them out. Thx.
