Grateful to be sober, grateful for recovery

These are two things which I am so grateful for. This always needs to be a constant and from this gratitude everything else which is positive can flourish. This is the foundation of my recovery and I know that when I am at a great place in my recovery and feeling good that I inevitably am truly grateful to be sober and for my recovery.

If you are struggling for gratitude about your new found sobriety then I found it helps to focus on all of the great things which sobriety brings; namely not all of the utter despair, embarrassment and shame that drinking brings to an alcoholic.

Grateful to be sober and grateful to have my recovery.

Hi BrighterDay - you are so right!

I'm grateful to have distanced myself from so many negative things as you mention: dispair, embarassment, shame, and the anxiety all that causes, etc.
I'm also very grateful to count all the blessings that have come pouring in, too: being a better mom, better friend, success at work, improvements in my personal goals and pursuits, better health and so forth.

Yes there are so many benefits that sobriety brings; just have to make sure that you see them and count all of the little bonuses along the way.

Thanks so much for the post!! Couldn't agree more. The more gratitude I have, the more full of life I feel...it works :-)

Beautifully put! Gratitude is right up there with love and easier to conjure on our own, with just our own minds <3

Being grateful sure has helped to keep me sober this time around.
Before when I would forget to be grateful, I would end up drunk yet again.
Been grateful on a daily basis now for 9 years.
Sure beats the old drunken life.

Gratitude is one of the most important parts of my recovery. I find something to be grateful for every day, even if it takes a bit of effort. An easy one is always that I'm grateful to not wake up with a hangover. But it goes so far beyond that. I feel like a different person in so many ways, and I never would have had the opportunity for this sort of self-awareness and improvement without recovery. I am grateful.
