Getting comfortable with being an alcoholic
Getting comfortable with being an alcoholic
Last night while watching football a friend was asking if anyone else wanted a beer ; he knows I don't drink and when all my other friends declined a beer he says, "Well looks like I'm the only alcoholic here." To which I replied, "oh no you're not; I'm an alcoholic! And that's why I'm NOT drinking"
Just over a year sober and finally getting comfortable with that word and admitting it to others. I think the more open I am with telling people I'm an alcoholic and specifically using the word alcoholic the more the stigma will change.
Just my thoughts on this Sunday,

I totally agree and get what you're saying, Leasha! I have kept an eye on your progress and was so excited to see your year mark! Congrats.
I work in a restaurant. It's where I worked before I stopped drinking (I will be a year sober on Feb 22, or 45 more days ) and it has been a huge blessing to have a job back there. I have seen my comfort level increase tremendously in what I tell people, and it just isn't a big deal - for me - regardless of what others think. If someone ever wants to have a conversation with me about their drinking (several have) I'd be happy it meant I was approachable to do that with.
We are brave and valuable members of society - I am grateful to be in the sober alcoholic category!
