Day 5

Hiya. I'm contemplating stopping drinking - on day 5. I can and do take alcohol free days, even a month every year but I know it's time to take the next step to abstinence. I drink approx 1 bottle of wine every night and 1.5 when my partner is off interspersed by 1-3 nights off every fortnight.

I've used alcohol to numb out life for about 16 years and drank socially and happily before that since I was 18. So I've battered my body more or less every other day for around 30 years! Stopped smoking 4 years ago on Champix. Kicked dope around 20 years ago, flirted with coke for around 5 years, had kidney cancer, kidney removed and survived it 3 years. I'm looking for a gentle guiding hand on my new journey and some compassion would just be great. Thank you.

Thank you. 3 months is impressive. I'm really focused on the physical and mental benefits of stopping. What's been the best things for you?

Good to have you join us, Pisces. Congrats on your 5 days sober.

I drank for decades & was a daily drinker when I found SR. I allowed myself to become completely dependent on it. It was never fun anymore - I was always foggy & numb. No way to live. It feels wonderful to wake up with a clear head and not have to wonder what I said/did the night before.

Hi Hevyn. Thank you for sharing that. I love the morning clarity too. I guess I've always had some sort of addiction on lots of different levels to lots of things. Stripping them all back one by one has been so painful like it is for everyone on this journey. How's your healing coming along? xx

Pisces - it's going great - I've been sober almost 9 yrs. after a couple of false starts. I didn't really expect to stop forever, but it feels so good to be free of it - there's no reason to go back to that old, sick life.
