Itchy

Hi all. Day 1 and itchy as sin.
Want to be a better husband and make more of my time on this earth.
Been on 10 - 15 units a day on the sober days for many years. I did have days off though but they only happen now and then. Being good is 50 units a week so I don't think it's too bad but the way I feel about alcohol, I don't want it to get any worse.
Once I start I drink till the none left so the thing that's pushed me over the edge is since I started brewing, I don't run out so have been sitting up after the wife goes to bed, and drinking till I sleep. Can't maintain at 50 units with a couple barrels on hand. Also just turned 40 and have so much booze in the house it could get silly.

Got to change!

It's been a blast but to go on would be a waste. Seen it, done it, have t shirt.

Welcome dreamer. I think you're going to like it here. We have plenty of encouragement & support to offer.

I like what you said about wanting to make more of your time on earth. I felt that way too - and was sick of being in a fog part of the time. You can do it!

Welcome to the family. The itchiness goes away with more sober time. (if not, see your doctor) The first few days of physical withdrawal can be rough. But you can get thru it, and know you'll never have to go thru it again if you stay sober.

Morning

Slept really well with dreams and everything! Gonna pack away the whisky's and empty the barrels tonight.

Thanks guys. Also considering an AA meeting. It's good to be able to speak about things any time of day as well though.

Welcome, Dreamer!

I hope you make it through day 2 well. An AA meeting would be great right now!

Read around and post often--it works if you work it!

Good choice!

Do you need to keep the whiskey though? How would you feel about putting that down the sink as well?

Welcome! I'm new too! Do you think having the beer in your house is a trigger for you? Could you give it away?

Welcome itching is normal during withdrawal, the bottom of my feet were the worst! I agree with the others that you should adopt a no alcohol in the house policy period, no exception, harder to stay on the right path with it in your reach, wishing you strength

Dreamer - I'm glad you got a good sleep. That's often a huge problem early on. You're doing great.

Evening

Hi all,

Thanks for your comments and support. It's nice to speak to folk who know what your going through. Passed a nice bar today and felt sad about not really being able to go in. I'm sure that'll change over time though.

Could taste IPA in my mind all the way home. Emptied my barrel of homebrew down the sink as soon as I got in.
I don't have the strength to deal with the whisky, port, wine, rum yet. I don't really care what happens to it I just don't want to be there as it goes down the sink.

Really tired tonight. Just as determined but tired. Tired in so many ways.

I've stopped for 6 weeks when I was waiting for my baby to arrive so I know it gets better.

Considering how to tell folk. Saying I'm going sober for January and then hopefully I'll find a way to say I'm just staying that way. Most of my social interaction is in the pub though 😥

Dunno how I'll hang out with my friend's in the new dynamic. I can go six weeks without seeing folk but certainly can't hide forever.

Not great. Really valued the stuff. They're nice malts! Not good for me but someone would be OK with it.

I'm not keeping any booze but just can't bear to deal with it all yet. Staying out of its way. Going to bed again to sleep and hopefully sleep some more.
