4th day sober

I've been drinking for decades. Used it for stress and anxiety - lunch, the drive home (bottle in trunk) and when I got home. Beer, Vodka, - - still have 1 stashed in the garage. Basically come home eat, drink and fall asleep

Suffered health too - caused high triglycerides , MI and stents.

Stopped drinking New Years day. Heavy drinking Christmas and New Years Eve and I started getting severe kidney pain each time.

4 days sober now and the pain is gone. Hopefully drinking too - I don't really miss it, but everyone around me drinks socially (some too much).

Hoping to stay sober and influence some friends too.

Glad I found this forum - peace and Happy New Year

Great job Paulysangles! I'm guessing it wasn't an easy four days either. Keep posting!

Long-term drinker also. Two weeks in to sobriety. It's not been easy but I keep focusing on each day, and make a specific plan that begins the moment I leave work and continues on until bed. I am just beginning to feel some noticeable changes in sleep and health (small changes right now, but I will take them!), and I am determined to keep going and see more.

Like you, I started having health issues. High blood pressure, triglycerides, weight gain, other things. I had to start facing it - how much longer could I go on like this? So, in partnership with my doctor (who I was finally honest with), I march forward, and she's OK with my goal of eventually getting off of blood pressure and other meds. if my life style changes can get those back to normal range on their own.

I was really NOT looking forward to talking openly with my doctor about this, but it was the best thing I ever did.

Great job on taking the plunge and getting sober. I am 52..been a heavy drinker my entire life. Drank daily. 8 beers every night minimum and 12 or more on Fri/Sat....
I didnt want to stop...but knew that I should.
Been over 70 days now and I feel best I have in YEARS! took a month for my head to start feeling clear...but I really feel good now and this feels better for me then the "fun" I had drinking.

Keep going!! It will get better and you will feel better. Good Luck!

glad youre here,pauly.
one of the actions I had to do was step away from wet faces and wet places. too much temptation and past experience showed me that every time I still hung around wet places and wet faces I eventually said," **** it" and drank.

Good job! Throw out that last bottle.

What is your plan? Hope won't keep us sober. Action will.

Keep going.

Hi pauly! Congrats on 4 days! Great you have joined SR. There are a few threads that you and others in early recovery might find useful. January class, Weekend group (1st Sober weekend of 2017) and 24 Recovery Connections. They're all good places to drop in and say "Hi, I'm still sober" or "Help I'm struggling!"

Congrats to everyone else too for staying sober!

Thanks everyone.
I did go out Wednesday night and had 1 light beer. It took all I had to not order a 2nd or open a few when I got home but I did it. I kept thinking of the pain in my side from the last binge.

It's Friday and this will be the real test. Wishing all a good weekend and success.

Hi Paul

I'm an Aussie - to me light beer means 3% alc rather than 4.9%.
Is that what you mean?

I couldn't dabble- I couldn't kinda sorta not drink or kinda sorta hang around pubs.

Too much at stake for me.
