A new year message to newcomers!
A new year message to newcomers!
Hi Folks!
I don't come around here very often these days. There are times you no longer 'see' people and wonder where they have gone. Many wonder if they 'went back out' or got drunk and were too ashamed to 'confess'. I also believe that people just move on with their lives in one way or another, living a sober life and enjoying their newfound freedom. Whatever the case may be, I wish them well.
My end of year message is that I am one of those who has slowly drifted away from the forum yet is rock solid in sobriety. Some know my story and most do not. It doesn't really matter. But I'm sure you have heard people exclaim, "If I can do it, anybody can!" I'm one of those people.
I just passed three years sober, I didn't say 'celebrated', I just said passed. Yes, it is truly something to celebrate, but now I just look at it as another day - sober - but just another day. I no longer worry about staying sober. I gave up drinking three years ago. I quit drinking, I no longer drink and I have no desire to ever drink again. That's it, FINI!
I didn't post for folks to say congratulations - I'll miss it anyway. If you old timers want to say something, offer words of encouragement and hope for the newcomers who have no idea how much different - better - their life is going to become when they finally 'get it'. I posted because I want newcomers to know that no matter how much you struggle, or how difficult it may seem, or how you think your life is going to suck because you "CAN'T drink no more" - I call bulls%&t on that last one - I'm here to tell you that if you have the desire, the right mind set, and are willing to just say "ENOUGH! I'm done drinking", it's very simple and not that difficult at all. Just make the decision that you are never going to drink again, and that nothing will stand in your way or prevent you from succeeding. Whatever 'help' or counseling you need to help you get through the early days, do not dismiss it. But, the bottom line is that it IS A CHOICE to drink or not to drink.
I chose not to drink - 3 years ago - and never looked back.
Happy New Year

LBrain, thanks for taking the time to write this. It's so great to have an uplifting post. Congratulations on your three years of freedom! I am new here, with 35 days sober; however, I know I will never drink again.
Best wishes to you.
Best wishes to you.
Hey Brian . . . it's that change in decision making and the idea of a choice never to drink again that is very inspiring indeed, we can have all the excuses in the world to drink but it's our choice to put alcohol to our lips once again, and we have the power to choose never again, that resolve and perseverance no matter what can move mountains, it can be done!!
Congrats on 3 years . . . but also thanks for being an inspiration in my own journey!!
