Day 1

Well that's me day 1 of not drinking. I thought an alcoholic was someone who needed a drink first thing in the morning how wrong was I. I am a bing drinker and my binges were every 3 months that would last a couple of days / 48 hours drinking sessions. Now my sessions are every 3 weeks. I upset those around me and I know now I have a problem. Well I need to stop this as I am a nice quiet girl when sober. Why do I like the being a obnoxious mouthy idiot??

Hi S. Sorry- cannot answer that one. I drank to heighten any emotion- good or bad. To make the effects of rewards or punishments last longer. Either way- for me not good. Welcome- keep posting- lots of very good info through out the threads.

welcome aboard sjofftherocks :)

When I stopped drinking I got the old me back - the real me - a me I'd almost forgotten about.

It's a pretty big transition - to not drink anymore- but it really is worthwhile.

This place helped me turn my life around - I know we can help you too :)

Welcome to SR

Sjofftherocks 12-28-2016 02:28 AM

Thank you for your kind words.
I am feeling very low right now. I just feel like a waste of space.

That low esteem makes it easier for us to drink again. Try your best to resist those kind of thoughts - they go nowhere.

Focus on the fact you're leaving an old life behind and embracing an exciting new one :)

We have a support thread every month for people getting newly clean and sober. Our latest one is December - all you need to do to join is post :)

The greatest gift of sobriety, and there have been many, is getting my self respect back. Yours is waiting for you too. :)

Welcome Sj! The mouthy idiot definitely sounds like the alcohol talking. Without it you can go back to the real you.

Hiya. You don't need to book a meeting, you can just turn up to any one. Why leave it till the 4th? All that does is give you time to get nervous and talk yourself out of it. Why put off til tomorrow what you can do today? Strike while the irons hot and all that .

Wishing you all the best for your sobriety and recovery. BB

Welcome to SR, Sj!

Thanks Bb. I've got. O idea what I have signed up for then. I think it was therapy for alcoholics- I thought that was AA tbh. There is a meeting tonight's at 20:30 but it lasts for an hour in a half. That is a bit long for me as I don't like leaving my dogs for long in the evening.

Hi SJ! Drinking turned me into a despicable person. The complete opposite of the real me. It also put me in danger. It was so great to be free of it. You will do this!
