Merry Christmas to those celebrating.
 

I would like to extend a massive thank you to this community, to everyone of you who have responded to my posts in the past and helped me through the slips in the beginning. Last night we as Germans had a celebration with friends and family, decorating the tree which was always booze fueled. It was again this year with one unique difference, I was not hammered. It wasn't as hard as I had tried to prepare for. I was dreading this day, being surrounded by it, all my buddies over partaking in the drinking and how I would manage. I did more than manage, I had an amazing time.

I did, so it's another small victory.
Day by day, it has been so worth it.

As I will not be on till the 26th, Merry Christmas everyone and thanks for being there for me. I am forever grateful.

I'm so happy to hear the good news, Ekohe. I remember dreading my first holiday season - I thought nothing would ever be fun again. Yet all I felt was numbness in the end. No joy. Glad you are on this journey with us.

Yep- I invested an adult lifetime to my drinking career. It has paid off. Finally I have reached the dream of no family, home, money or career. But safe, sober and sane. Surprisingly sane. Not actually happy- but realistically at peace. No thoughts of drinking today at all. What for? That evidently did not work. Trying something new now.
