Ready to quit

Hi! I joined a few months ago but wasn't ready to quit. I'm ready now. I am taking 3 different medications for depression and anxiety and have repeatedly been told not to drink while on them (sometimes I don't take my evening dose because "I don't want to mess up my liver" lol). Anyway things have become too much. I have a deadline at work for Jan 16th and am planning to quit that day. My psych wants to medicate me for withdrawals and my therapist suggested supervised detox. I feel like I don't need those and want to try on my own. Any advice you can give me would be great

Take the advice of your doctor/and or therapist.

Also, drinking until the 16th of January doesn't sound like being ready to quit. I sort of understand your wanting to keep your work commitments, but a case of the flu or a serious fall would impact meeting that deadline as much as quitting drinking would. So if you ready...really ready to quit drinking, quit now.

If you don't trust your psychiatrist and therapist, then it's probably a good idea to look for a different dr. Do you have a family dr who could advise you?

Hi Jasper.

Its great that you have decided to quit, but Jan 16th is still quite a way away. If you quit now, you could well be over the worst of it by Christmas. I certainly find i'm about twice as productive at work when i'm not hungover / withdrawing from the night before!

Putting off the inevitable to mid Jan may only increase your anxiety and depression.
As for medical advice, a good and trusting rapport with therapist(s) is also important.

Welcome aboard Jasper! It's good to hear you are ready to quit and seeking help about it. Take their advice on how to quit though.

Why wait a month to get sober? A lot can happen between now and then.

And I'd take the medical help in detoxing. Detox can be dangerous and it's best to be safe.
