Smile First timer?

I stopped drinking and quit smoking the same day in October 2005 and I can honestly say its been the best decision of my life. It saved my marriage, my health and my career.

I don't miss it (not in a craving way), and am genuinely happy to join events where everyone drinks and i sip my coke zero.

I guess i'm more boring than I used to be (I try not to) but I usually don't stick around until everyone is wasted, nor do i go out to pubs or bars. I even notice my friends were actually far less wasted than I was at the time, although my memory at the time was convinced that everyone drank as much as I did.

Honestly its not on my mind anymore. I went to AA 3-4 times and it really helped me realize the situation i had brought myself into. There is always a chance of a relapse so i stay vigilant, but i honestly don't feel the craving to drink or smoke anymore.

Now its my turn to help others get through this!

11 years sober, way to go! That's what BTO would call taking care of business. Welcome to SR, DBSober!
