Deciding to get Sober at XMAS.................
Getting through the holidays all the while committing to staying sober is a feat in and of itself. If you can do something very hard, when everyone else is celebrating with drink, that has to make you stronger and your resolve solid. My mother passed away end of March and she was the finest Irish lady, or any lady I know. My parents were married for 55 years. My dad is 81 and is such a great man, but the loss of my mom makes me not want to have xmas with my two older sisters and their familes, along with my dad. They talk about my mom over wine, while I have none. When I make it through this, nothing should be able to stop me. Thanks for listening.
Congratulations for getting sober.....I lost my Mum and I stayed sober...I love her and miss her terribly.
It is difficult to articulate but by being sober it allows me to accept my grief and loss without the complications of a boozy inflamed brain...I feel more emotionally anchored. I don't have that as a drinker, as a daily drinker grief and loss would spin me right out, cycling through the emotions over and over again. . You can do this.

Hi sdnavyblue72
I'm sorry for your loss.
If you think it's going to be tough for you to stay sober, maybe r reconsider going?
If you want to be there and you think you';; be ok, remember there's support here.
There are some great tips in this thread too:
