First post on soberrecovery - looking for support from others
Hello - am new here and this is my first post. I have been sober since 31-12-16. I have not attended AA meetings and have used other internet addiction forums for support and guidance to get me to this point.
I have been drinking since the age of 15 (now 43) with no significant breaks. This one year alcohol free milestone is MASSIVE for me.
I am looking to make connections with others sharing this journey and to offer support and guidance where I can.
With the one year end looming, I am feeling a little scared. Is this normal? Am hoping that some longer term sober people might be able to offer some words of wisdom.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and "hello".

Hello and welcome! I'm only a month sober, so I can't really answer your question, but I wanted to say hello and congrats on your sobriety.
I will say, you've been sober this long, don't let anything jeopardize that. If you're feeling particularly weak lately, have you considered looking into AA or something?

There is a thought in recovery circles that the One Year (and other soberversaries) are a time when people tend to pick up. I didn't feel any particular pull at one year. I was finally stable and well - not in any way ready to give that up after how difficult it was to get there.
As long as you just keep doing the same stuff you've been doing, it should pass uneventfully. It's just another day, not a cause for testing the waters or celebrating with a drink. I know that one sip/one drink and I would eventually end up right where I was when I was desperate to quit three years ago. I mean, how mad at yourself would you be for doing that??
Welcome.

Hug congrats on your first month sober. That's the toughest one out of the way. Well done.

Hello and welcome
You picked a stressful time to get sober for most people, ringing in the New Year includes drinking. It's a difficult time for the people that are abstaining.
Do you have support from your family and friends in your efforts to not drink?
For the past 17 years, I've celebrated New Years at my friend's house with people in AA. You could try a meeting or two right now and see what type of celebration they have planned. Should you not like the people or the festivities you've not lost anything by trying.
Wishing you continued success on your sobriety
