Back to Life Weekender 15 - 18 Dec
Volunteering is a great idea, Sao. There are so many people in need of someone, anyone to reach out with a quick smile or hello, just to listen to them. When my grandmother was in a nursing home last year, I'd visit with her in her room and then stop by the dining hall on my way out for a cup of coffee before the drive home. Almost every time, I'd meet someone new just by saying hi, how are you today... A life story would come out! So much wisdom shared. And it didn't take training, extra cash, or going much further out of my way... Just being on the lookout for someone in need. They're not too hard to find. Thanks for reminding me. It brings back cool memories from some great sober time last year.
Thanks Conquest, I feel a bit of a fraud mentioning volunteering since I don't do it myself but thinking about it perhaps I should take my own advice, after all part of my opening post was about the extra time I/we have at weekends
I'm back at my own place and I'm very lonely.
I went to the shop, bought a box of chocolates, another box of festive shapes shortbread and an apple and cinnamon scented candle to try and locate my festive spirit.
I also wrote some cards and posted them. Also one for my consultant to put on his desk in the morning. One of the ladies told me on Friday night that apparently my doctor and our line manager are extremely close. Her exact words were "I guarantee if he didn't like you, you would be gone already. So feel secure in your job".
My mom asked me earlier if I had my 'L' plates on my fathers car today. When I told her no, she said "good. Leave them off because they are an embarrassment". I have to have them on by law if I'm driving. If I wasn't driving she would be whinging about that too. If that's her attitude to everything "an embarassment" then she has bigger problems than I do.
Here is Galway...It looks well in the evening.

Hahahaaa! We should swap online dating stories sometime Tetra! I've got a few good ones. But it was all worth it cuz it landed me an incredible husband and a bonus son. Hang in there and keep listening to your gut when it says "hmmm no thanks".
Actually I take it back.
Yeah I'm on my own but I have the TV, a pile of books, herbal tea and a tin of shortbread all to myself. There are plenty more lonely ways I could spend a Sunday night.
At least it's warm and peaceful here.

I served on the line for a Thanksgiving outreach dishing out mashed potatoes. It was a blast! It was a joy to look straight in people's eyes and slap good food on their plates! It was a big smilefest! The more they smiled, the more I smiled. I just couldn't help it!
Cool pic Tetra!
Happy 16th to your grandaughter quitter
This Weekender thread rolls on until Wednesday evening so hopefully some more of you out there will check in and let us know how you are doing. If it's good we wanna know. If it's bad, we wanna know.
In addition, if you have an experience or an observation or similar that you think might not justify starting up a whole new thread on Newcomers (for eg) then post it on Weekenders because this is not just about what is on in the opening post but a kind of jotting pad of our journey
Bedtime for me, well done to all of you, I know every one of us is doing their best to live a sober and meaningful life
Monday morning 1am here ,
cold is going although not gone yet .
Christmas holidays , sometimes it's religeous for people , sometimes it's about self indulgence , sometimes it's about giving , sometimes things just seem odd , i think it's worthwhile making the effort to make it as special as we can ,
