Today I am 48 DAYS sober.
I am 53 years old. Ever since I was in my mid-20's I have had a hard time even going 48 HOURS without drinking.
To anyone struggling with getting sober - if you want it bad enough it can be done. It isn't easy in the beginning; but it gets better everyday.
I am getting help from a doctor, and the first 3 to 4 weeks of sobriety were a roller coaster of emotions and physical changes but I am beginning to feel human again.
I spent half of my life walking around either drunk, hungover, sick, or in a daze. My body was mentally and physically spent from over 27 years of alcohol abuse.
I feel that this is my last chance to get healthy if I want to live a normal life.
Good luck to all.

awesome!
48 days is awesome! I'm 23 and counting. I remember every day how great it is to no longer be a slave to my addiction and I hope you do also!
I'm still new here but I've already found so much great support, wisdom, and understanding from everyone here. I'm so thankful I found SR!
I pray for your next 48 days and so far beyond!

Doug,
Great job on 48 days.
I am 52 years old. I quit about 19 months ago.
The body starts to have a hard time processing booze after a while...imo.
If you are anything like me, it is going to take a long time really pull out of the hole.
During that time, relapse will be ever calling.
The first several months were the toughest.
Now, I have too many clean months to waste it on a drunken stupor.
Drinking doesn't make sense to me anymore.
Thanks.

Thanks you to all for all your kind words.
Yes, I believe this. Alcohol turned from a fun thing to do that relieved stress and anxiety to a poison that ruined my body and mind.
Drinking certainly doesn't make sense to me anymore.
