3 days done
Hi All,
I hope you had a lovely weekend.
It has now been 3 days since my last drink but it feels like it has been a lot longer and I don't understand that at all?
I have been to 4 AA meetings in 3 days and I am amazed at how much they have helped. I have met some wonderful people with stories just like mine and I now have a temporary sponsor.
I am exhausted, nauseous and tired....but no worse than how I felt after drinking. I am still very scared and uncertain in my ability to handle this but I have a quite resolution and a strong urge to succeed...just need to find a way to turn up the volume. I'm hoping that voice will get louder and drown out the others.
Thank you for listening as it helps me to verbalize (write) how I'm feeling.

Time has a way of slowing down the first week or two but then it catches up again with breakneck speed Scruffanie
3 days is great, what you're feeling is totally normal, and you're doing well

Learning to remain sober each day is
similar to us going to school. Did any
of us race thru pre-school, grade school,
middle school, high school or college in
a short amount of time?
I know it didn't happen for me as I slowly
plowed thru each day dreading the home
work, studying, tests, yet they were unavoidable.
As I look back on the experience, I had
to do it and it was one of those stepping
stones in life that was needed to help
me get thru everyday life.
Childhood, adulthood, its all a journey
we travel in life and here we are learning
how to live life without a controlling
substance inside us trying to numb us,
kill us.
Going to school and learning about addiction
and a program of recovery listening, learning,
absorbing, applying this helpful knowledge
will help us live a healthier, happier quality
of life as we continue on this journey in life.
With many one days sober today, I continue
to remain teachable in learning more ways
to ensure I can live with healthy and happy
with you guys.
3 days down as you are slowly learning how to
build a strong, solid recovery foundation to live
your life upon staying connected and going to
school.

Oh, I definitely remember those slooooowwww first days! I know, it sucks but its just something we have to get through ya know? Thats why they say we have to get through one minute at a time in the beginning.
Now at almost 5 months, I find myself saying wow seems like just yesterday I gave up the poison, gave up the fight, the struggle. Freedom is so sweet, keep counting those minutes my dear.

Keep it up. Action keeps us growing.
Did you get a Big Book? Reading that whole thing (numerous times) was a big help to me.
Get one at the next meeting if you haven't already.
You've made a great start, keep building that momentum!

Congrats.
We have the same sober date, and I feel like 1 day=1 week. I'm just trying not to think about how fast time is going and more focus on getting to bed tonight without a drink, that seems to help a little. Little distractions are kinda good too. Getting up and doing something. If I'm sitting around I'm thinking too much, and that never ends well.
Keep goin!

I agree that time goes by so slow at first. I'm on day 24 and every day gets better. I found it helpful to not focus so much on counting the days. I counted til day 6 and then lost track and it was fun to look at my calendar and realize I was up over 20 already. Since I'm not trying to reach a certain number, I'm trying to live the rest of my life sober, it doesn't matter so much how many days it's been for me.
