So glad I found you all!
Jill,
Unchecked addiction to booze will trick our minds to believe whatever it takes to get the booze into our bodies.
You name it...it was a reason to drink for me.
Each of us has to make the decision to quit on our own. I would have never quit had I not started having horrible panic attacks that seemed to be increasing in severity and frequency.
Once I quit for about a month, i began to feel the hellish brain damage that motivated me to follow through and log 19 clean months. That is a drop in the bucket...I don't drink anymore.
Going back to your last post...
imo....your husband is not as ready to quit as you. He is addicted...but not ready to quit.
If you try and force him, he will probably hide his drinking from you. It is pretty common...from what I have learned here.
Take care of yourself, lead by example, and he might realize what you are doing is the right thing.
I copied my sober wife and sober friends. None of them used AA, They simply don't drink. Sounded good to me and it works.
I use SR to vent, because addicts love to talk about addiction. I also love to talk f2f with folks that want to quit or have quit. It is a good subject compared to politics or religion.
Thanks.
