Five Senses Appreciation Day--Today Thank Your Nose

As those of you who have read my whining threads know, I have had the Monster Demon Cold from Hell for the past eight days. As a result, I have completely lost my sense of smell not just because my nose has been stuffed up...it's gone and it's taken my ability to taste with it.

Now that I think I'm finally turning a corner, I have read about people this happens to and it never comes back. Gawdamighty. It has caused me to really understand how much I take all my senses for granted.

With that overly-long preamble, I decided to declare Sense Appreciation Week and post it in this forum, because as newbies, we can get a little too focused sometimes on deprivation because Not Drinking.

So I'll start with the first wonderful things I hope to be able to smell again soon.

Coffee brewing
The Christmas tree
Maine winter air
Ginger molasses cookies
Sautéed garlic.

Want to play? What smells do you want to thank your nose for today?

The baked smell of dry earth and Eucalypt. The sea wind rolling off the Southern Ocean after such a day, with the promise of rain- WHICH IS REINFORCED BY STORM CLOUDS ON THE HORIZON, JUST BEFORE THE SUN LEAVES FOR THE DAY- A LAST DIGNATURE FLASH OF GREEN. tHE CHANGE IN COLOUR OF A GORGE IN THE fLINDERS rANGES. sUNRISE/SET- THE OCHRES DANCE WITH COLOUR- RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GOLD.
I am not writing all that again. Typing with keyboard on lap- on bed.
The sound of desperate water- filling dry beds after a cloud burst- rising feet upon feet in hours. The smell of heavy rain on dry, baked and parched earth.
The sharp aroma of seaweed on a lonely beach- combers roll in, white caps.
The honest smell of decades of oil, grease, petrol and sweat coming from the stone work garage of the local mechanic.
