DuI - from the sober perspective
DuI - from the sober perspective
I've had two DUIS.
Nearly three.
Countless others I 'got away with'.
I recall those DUIs and near-escapes with the hazy vision of drunken memory, and the aftermath.
I am fortunate and grateful I didn't hurt or kill anyone.
Last night with my pregnant wife and children, we were out to get a tree and found ourselves behind a car, swerving across lines and lanes, nearly into head on traffic in front of us.
I briefly recalled my own DUIS and my experience I'd seeing this in past and just laughing it off.
Then I felt the terror of the potential for a head on collision right in front of me. The safety of my family in jeopardy. The countless times before and the times again this driver might endanger lives.
I dialed 911.
Two patrol cars arrived and took that driver to jail.
If you see it, call it.
Lives could be saved.
Maybe even the life of a fellow alcoholic, who might finally see the light from behind those bars.
There are many ways to carry the message.
May that guy wake up today, to a different light. I feel for him.
May you reading this find it as further inspiration or affirmation of sobriety.
Stay sober, stay safe.
