I'm clenching my teeth, and fighting tears.
A year ago this week, I had a friend who died of a heart attack. Didn't drink, didn't smoke, didn't do drugs, he was 46 and had a teenage son. Looking back its hard. I was a little guy, he was a brute. We drove all over the country in the early 90's winning national title after national title in weightlifting (which is no longer popular). I'll never forget when I was 19 and we were headed to St. Louis (leaving Minnesota) and we got 2 speeding tickets before we hit Iowa and he laughed and tore em up before we even got back on the highway. I was lifting, he wasn't, and I got some type of blockage in my stomach the night before and I was in serious trouble (fetal position) (I had to make weight) and he was at the hotel bar picking up some gals, and I called down to tell him my condition (before cells phones or texts) and within 5 minutes he broke through the door, scooped me up and took me to the ER. I got a shot in the butt, and some pills, no sleep and still won the men's (21 and older) national power lifting championship. I was 19 years old. He died a year ago, he achieved much more fame and fortune than I ever did in weightlifting. I achieved my success in bodybuilding. But we remained buds. He's dead. I'm not. I hurt inside, he was a good guy.

Thank you Thomas for sharing that
video of your friend and story. He had
lots of awesome strength to push that
much weight, esp. laying down.

Stay strong in mind, heart and soul
as we lift you up in prayers, compassion

Jeff sorry for your loss. I'm not a religious person but I do take comfort in the idea that when we lose someone the remembrances of them are the parts of them that live on through us. Thanks for sharing that story , he sounds like a great friend to have spent time with.
Perhaps you could reach out and relate that story to his son. As sad as marking an anniversary like that can be sharing a story about a true friend and how they touched our lives brings with it more than sadness.
