ODAAT Eagles Joe Walsh

I am in day 11 of recovery from a 17 year opiate addiction. Besides losing my kids and family this is one of the hardest things I have done. If I can't stay clean this time then I am going to lose my fiance who is one of the best things to happen to me. I can't imagine where my life would be without him .... Yeah I do I would most certainly be dead ... Just another statistic.

I wanted to share a song that has helped me stay clean, given me strength, and hope over these past very looooonggg 11days and I hope it does the same for others. Music is medicine to my soul. I don't know if we are allowed to post links, bc I'm new to forums so I hope to inspire you to Google Joe Walsh One day at a time ..... Very powerful.

Keep your head up, keep faith, we can beat this addiction one day at a time, however for me I still have to take it minute by minute. Good luck in your journey to this thing we call life.

Hi Fairyeyes03. I love that song. When I got out of treatment it was one of the first songs I heard when I started to feel better. I'd crank it up and listen to it over and over. The lyrics are wonderful. I still like to jack it up now and again. I'll be praying the best for you!

Oh yeah!

And I'm assuming he wrote it?

He can still belt it out!

He wrote it yeah - great song :)

"One Day At A Time"

Well you know,
I was always the first to arrive at the party, ooh!
And the last to leave the scene of the crime
Well it started with a couple of beers,
And it went I dont know how many years,
Like a runaway train headed for the end of the line.

Well I finally got around to admit that I might have a problem.
But I thought it was just too damn big of a mountain to climb.
Well I got down on my knees and said 'Hey!' (la la la)
'I just cant go on livin' this way!' (la la la)

Guess I have to learn to live my life one day at a time.
Oh ya! One day at a time!
Oh ya! One day at a time!

Oh ya! One day at a time!
Oh ya! One day at a time!

Well I finally got around to admit that I was a problem.
When I used to put the blame on everybody's shoulders but mine.
All the friends I used to run with are gone, (la la la)
Lord, I hadn't planned on livin' this long. (la la la)

I have to learn to live my life one day at a time!

It was something it was too blind to see,
I got help from something greater than me...
And I have to learn to live my life one day at a time!

Joe Walsh is 10 kinds of awesome, been listening to his music since the James Gang days. And congrats on your 11 days, fairyeyes.

Sometimes music can really be some good therapy. Very underrated.

Love The Eagles and Joe Walsh. He was on Conan O'Brien a few weeks back and sang Rocky Mountain Way. He still sounded great.

Thanks for this song. I had never heard it before.

fairyeyes03, Congratulations on 11 days, that is wonderful.

Putting an opiate addiction behind you is exactly that, cut ties with everyone and everything that is associated with opiates.
It can be tough and quite often a case of one step forward and two steps back but before too long it is one step forward and the days are passing and the opiate addiction is a thing of the past. You can do this : )

Thank you all for the congrats! Day 12 today :) All the withdrawals are gone, my head is clear, my psych meds are helping, my skin has color back in it, my energy levels are crazy good and best of all natural ... Not used to having this energy without the use of drugs. Wow! I feel like a brand new person today .... This is what it really feels like to be sober huh??!!? Loving it and starting to love life again.

All the support from this forum has been beyond gracious and I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart <3.
