A friend from rehab died

Got some really sad news a few days ago. A young (24), vibrant, sweet soul died Saturday night when he mixed alcohol and xanax. Went to bed and never woke up. Apparently he continued to drink after he left rehab but stopped using...then Thanksgiving night he started mixing drugs and alcohol and, well... My heart breaks for him and his family. His laugh could make the grumpiest person smile. :-(

I lost an older friend (50+) who was a regular user of a charity service I used to volunteer with last year to an overdose. I'm sorry you're going through this.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I knew a guy in rehab that was madly in love with his girlfriend who was also there. Real nice guy. He waited on her hand and foot while they were there. Found out later when they left rehab that she woke up and found him dead next to her. Drug overdose. Can't imagine that kind of pain. Great guy. Deserved better. I'll never forget him. John

I am so sorry for your loss, uncorked. I have a friend who is parts unknown to me and I don't have a good feeling. It is so painful to see people we care about destroy themselves.

Take care of yourself, now especially.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts.

Seems like every rehab has their fair share of this, unfortunately. According to the drug counselors there, when people relapse they often go back to the drinking/drug use level they were at before they became sober and their body isn't accustomed to that anymore.

A sad situation regardless.
