Just as a thought experiment:
If somehow you were able to couple your current attitude toward consuming alcohol with the times in the past that you 'remember' the carefree 'fun' of the drinking experience, would they have been experienced as carefree?
I think a decent argument could be made that change is metaphysical.

Give it time. Learning to be in certain situations without alcohol can be challenging for a little while. It will get better. Hate to say it, but it's kinda just one of those things you have to trudge thru for a little bit. Then one day, you'll be sober in some social situation and you'll realize you're having a bit of fun in spite of yourself.
if there's no release or joy left in drinking, then not-drinking wins the contest. No matter how challenging or frustrating or boring that may seem sometimes, you get the glowing pride in yourself, and that's such an amazing thing to feel!

In AA it's called the Jumping Off Point. You can no longer imagine life with alcohol but at the same time you cannot imagine life without it. Please go to some AA meetings and find the solution. Anyone who has stopped was at the exact same cross road you are at. Freedom is just a meeting away.
