Stay close and stay sober with us.

Glad to meet you thecurtis.
I sympathize - I was older too when I realized something had to change. I was drinking every day - I was dependent on it to get by. It was hard to let go of at first - it had been part of my life for decades. I had to admit it was really no longer fun or exciting the way it once had been, & my life was controlled by it. After a bit of discomfort and frustration I was able to get free. We're here to listen and help. You can do this.

Welcome Curtis!! Glad you found the November thread, you may also want to pop into the December thread, you will find others at exactly the same point in their recovery.
I had to occupy the time I would have normally been drinking the first few weeks. I went for walks, to yoga, read both recover and non recovery related books, spent lots of time on here reading and posting.
You can do this, and it is so worth it!
