So awesome being a sober person.

Last night's Thanksgiving...

As the night wore down, about 4 hours at the party.... the heavy drinkers...about 4 folks out of 20 or so...were red eyed and slurring words.

I know the hangover and anxiety will be hell for them this morning. I remember those days. They are burned into my brain forever. As an uneducated addicted, I was at the mercy of the addiction. Now I know all about addiction. Knowing is grounding and liberating.

Ingest a liquid that alters my mind....that damages my brain. Does not make sense. Addiction is senseless.

So, here I am, clean as usual. Ready to enjoy my day, confident and sober. My drinking days are forever behind me.

For all the folks struggling w addiction here, don't give in. Fight the addiction, love your sobriety. Clean is how we were designed to live. Get through the crave and bask in your feelings of physical and mental well being.

Look back only remember the hell of addiction...only to strengthen your sobriety.

Get clean...stay clean.

Awesome post !
This was my first thanksgiving sober.

It was great to be alert and interact with everyone.
Ordinarily ..... I'd been bombed even before the meal.
Then snoring on the couch ...

Thanks.. It wasn't so bad !

I would also say to anyone struggling ... Quitting can be the most glorious thing ever. But you won't know until you try!

Great post D122, and I concur with your assessment. I spent a little time on facebook yesterday and I saw an entire liquor store's worth of bottles of beer and booze. I no longer want any part of that lifestyle. Furthermore, if I was really feeling rough this morning, I would have had a belt or two to bring me back to life. Horrible way to go through life.

Good for you D122y! No one drinks at our family holidays. What they do on their own time, who knows. So Thanksgiving wasn't a problem for me. Just a nice, drama free day!
