Welcome star! We are ready to help....plenty of encouragement and caring is here for you. SR gave me the courage to change my life after drinking for decades. Not feeling alone anymore makes all the difference.

Hey Star. I'm in the same boat. There's so much help here and some very wise people. Reading threads and advice and realising (slowly - for me anyway) that we can get there and it's NEVER going to be as bad as we imagine is hugely helpful.

Posting your thoughts and continuing to do so is a good idea. There'll always be support for you here.

No need to be lonely Star. There are all of us on here at SR who understand the alcoholic perspective who you can chat to. There is also a good strong fellowship of alcoholics in recovery walking the path ahead of you and ready and waiting to help you onto the lifeboat at your local AA meetings. ... Tri-County Central Office - Alcoholics Anonymous - Tampa I'd suggest letting those good folk haul you onto the middle of the life raft and stay safe there while you learn how to live happily sober and achieve some peace and serenity. It can be done. Not overnight and not necessarily easily, but with commitment to getting well and an acceptance of how unmanageable alcohol makes things.

It's easy to get our chickens and eggs confused and think, I could be sober if my life / job / people / memories / past / future / car / financial situation / Etc. Etc. wasn't like this. Thing is, what we find is that once we've put the booze down and started to recover, those things begin to be resolved.

In AA they have what we call The Promises. I didn't take them too seriously when I landed there. Just like I don't buy into most ads on TV or in magazines. But they are proses, not an ad. And they only went and came true. For me!! Amazing, and for friends who worked their program of recovery as well. I've seen a few transformations now.

Here are the promises....

1. If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed
before we are half way through.
2. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.
3. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.
4. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.
5. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience
can benefit others.
6. That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.
7. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.
8. Self-seeking will slip away.
9. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.
10. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.
11. We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.
12. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for
ourselves
Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled among us -
sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialize if we work for them.
Alcoholics Anonymous p83-84

I hope and pray you, too, will find peace, serenity and fellowship on your recovery journey.

BB

It's so easy to make the choice and just give up and drink, yet it is so important to choose not to drink and surrender your life to God's will. Surrender to God and not drinking and everything will be okay. Happy Thanksgiving!
