1 Year
1 Year
Today I am officially one year sober. Wow!
Looking back at the beginning of this journey I couldn't see past the next day. A year seemed like an impossible eternity away. So I focused on the only thing I could - the current day. Get through today and lets work on tomorrow. Get counseling and a plan in place to help give me a framework to lean on when needed.
I was heading down a path that was not going to end well for my marriage, my family, or myself. Accepting I had an issue and committing to new sober life has been the hardest and best decision I could have made.
In this past year working on being sober and building a new life I have:
- lost 22 pounds
- started a new side business that is going very well
- been more involved with my daughters daily activities
- grown closer to my wife (and appreciate her more)
- lived in the present
- been in complete control of myself (the most significant benefit to me)
Very proud of the class of November 2015 that has made it this far - especially RedAndy and Blueberry.
To you new comers - I know it seems impossible. I know it is hard. I also know if I can do this you can as well. You need to put yourself first. Get a plan in place (ask if you don't know what you need in a plan), and walk this journey one day at a time. Those days add up faster than you think.
We can do this.
