Withdrawl question...

What I the typical medley your dr gives you for assisting in the initial withdrawals... I will be day 2 tomorrow but my dr appt isn't until Monday evening....I'm wondering if urgent care could help until then... Cause the two hospital trips they offered me nothing to help with the symptoms... And my family dr is very hard to get appts with 😢

Hi K66
In the UK they won't give you anything unless you manage to get into a programme which offers a detox. I went to A&E myself on Monday with withdrawals and sent away and told to drink.
I hope you get offered more help where you are.
Good Luck!

Hi K

it will vary from patient to patient and Dr to Dr I think. Definitely if you feel concerned or worried, Urgent Care is always an option.

Will you be alone ovr the weekend?

The last time I went through withdrawals I tapered which was really hard for me but I was supervised by my community alcohol & drug team and checked in with them daily.

The time before that I was given benzos and that was awful because I used to be addicted to drugs and it triggered that urge again in me.

I absolutely recommend going to A&E if you feel dodgy. They might tell you to continue drinking till you can get to a drug/alcohol community centre or your GP, but they can give you a check over and that might help put your mind at ease.

Thanks for all the responses yes I'm from Canada I went to an urgent care regarding anxiety years ago which I still only got them when hungover really... And stuck at work... He gave me a blocker lorazepam or something and told me to take it every day for 20 days an if it made me feel better to see my family doctor for a refill... I read that it was habit forming so I only wanted something to help stop an attack not every day so maybe an urgent care can provide me with something to help until Monday... I'll check it out... Starting day 2 with perhaps an hour of broken sleep and a coworker that just had hand surgery so I need my A game today.... 😁😓 wish me luck.... I will be fine an not drink today...

That's awful that in the UK they don't give ya'll anything to help with WDs. Here in the US, you'll get some kind of meds to help.

My experience is that usually the ER will help, Urgent care won't. I have been denied drugs in the ER however. It all depends on the dr and how bad my symptoms are. As a frequent flyer they usually force me into a detox facility as they don't want the liability of sending me home with meds. And I've never taken them for longer than the first 5 days. Good luck!

Good positive sober thinking there.
You may actually already be over the roughest times already.

The anxiety during withdrawal can be hell. If it's getting especially bad, you can try going to an urgent/convenient care and let them know you are going through an alcohol detox. They will likely give you a 5 day supply of benzos to help the pain until it's cleared. Otherwise just hunker down, keep hydrated, do lots of reading to keep your mind occupied until it passes.
