PK - 3 Years

3 years? . . . What does one say that has not already been written?

What does one feel between Day 1 compared to Day 1000+, don’t get me wrong, there was a time when I couldn't make it past 30 mins or 1 hour, never mind Day 1, for all you newcomers don’t despair, there is hope, if I can do it, so can you, I remember playing online scrabble over and over during my evenings after work, I would pass hours creating words, over and over again, and the time would pass, it would tick away, and that’s the problem, time passes at it’s own pace, it can’t be speeded up, it simply is, and so I would sit there watching hours turn into days, turn into weeks, it’s simply another constant that we must accept, there are no shortcuts, it is a frustratingly slow march onwards.

Create something to be proud of, in the last 3yrs I have addressed my demons, wrote my story for all to read, wrote a narrative of my interaction with my alcoholic dad, all within this Forum and it has been very healing, I have continued to put helping and encouraging others as an important part of my recovery, and last but not least, my love of sport I have continued to share over the last few years within the NFL threads, which frankly I am continually honoured and humbled that anyone shows up week upon week.

What are my lessons? Well you have to start from somewhere, and as I continually reply to threads, nothing changes if nothing changes, but it’s more than that, ask yourself what kind of life do you want to have? are you happy? If not what kind of life would make you proud? And go out there and make it happen, we are all artists with a blank canvas, each and every one of us can paint a new future to our lives, we just have to get on our feet and start painting.

This Tuesday I will be 3 years Sober, if you had of asked me 5 years ago to look ahead to this moment, I would have said it’s crazy talk, alcohol was soo entrenched in my life, there was no horizon beyond it, and the idea of a Sober me was impossible, but I’m here to say it can be done.

If I can do it then so can you, I am grateful for everyone that I have met here on SR, you all don’t know how much you mean to me, you inspire me each day, you cheer me up, you all come together as a community I want to be part of, the sincerity, the genorosity, the heartwarming posts I read touch this heart each and every day, I thank you all.

I will always be “broken” . . . I’ve been down a long road, but finally I started to piece things back together . . . Sobriety began to repair everything, a solid foundation.

SR . . . I offer you my heart . . . If you don’t mind broken hearts!!

It inspires me to see young people with their whole lives in front of them grow in sobriety. Well done!!

You carry the message well - keep it up. That is truly our primary purpose.

Hi PK,

I must admit I had tears dripping down my face reading your post. Thank you for such a heartfelt, and encouraging no tribute to your three years, thank you for the support you offer others on this forum when they are struggling. Finally, thanks for the golden staplers you hand out each Sunday or Monday, depending on how accurate the pickers were. I believe I am the only one in possession of both a golden stapler and golden staples.

Congratulations on three years, so incredibly proud of you!!!!

❤️ Delilah
