I'm also in my late 40s and can relate. I'm on Day 14 today, and feeling so much better, hopeful, optimistic. My last bender was so bad I was sick for the first week after, I feared for my life. I counted breaths, minutes, hours and slowly it got better.
Can anyone send me some advice?
If you have support in real life as well, reach out to that too - there's no such thing as too much support.
What would do now is throw out whatever alcohol is left, drink some water and maybe have an early night?

It's not an easy road Maggie, not in the beginning. But you're here and working on it and that's what matters.
The more you do to actively support your sobriety the easier it will be. There are hard times when it feels like your mind wants to do nothing but think of drinking. Those feelings will pass and the more you stick to it and get past them the easier it gets.
You CAN do this, Coming here is a great start and Dee has given you some great links too.
In the beginning I would plan things to do during my hardest times that made it impossible for me to drink. I also made sure there was no alcohol in the house. The best thing is to make sure you have a plan before you get the urge. The better the plan the more successful you'll be.
What plan do you have in place for the next time you want to drink?

Cravings - Help
I had 8 days sober then a drunk day and now I am on my day 4. I have my whole family coming for Thanksgiving (most of who drink) and I am having cravings. I invited everyone during one of my binges... imagine that. Then I decided to get sober. They are not aware of the extent of my drinking. I needed to reach out before I do something I will regret. Anxiety and cravings are huge.
Spend time posting and reading here. Lady Blue posted about planning to stay busy in the beginning, I had to do the same thing. Once you get a few weeks under you the anxiety will lessen. It is hard when you are stuck in the cycle of staying sober for a few days and then drinking again, you can do this. Do you have any supports other than SR in place?
