Welcome back, 2thru1; I don't have any personal experience with opiate addiction.

Have you spoken with your doctor?

I am sure that someone will be along soon with experience in opiate addiction.

Speaking with a certified addiction specialist may be helpful.

Also, have you found an alternate way to control the source of your pain? Have you looked into alternate therapies? Have you looked into mindful meditation? There is a very good SR thread regarding the importance of a plan; I'll find it and attach it in a minute.

In the meantime, I want to congratulate you for seeking a new way to life. Sobriety and recovery truly changed my life; it brought freedom, renewed self-esteem, greatly improved relationships and the list goes on and on.

I wish the same for you, 2thru1.

Opiates are tough. Have you considered NA? The support and guidance of recovered addicts can be key to your recovery.

This is not your first rodeo, 2thur1, and you are not the typical newcomer. You were a professional substance abuse counselor for years, with 16 years clean, and you used multiple drugs, not just opiates.

I believe that you already know precisely what it is that you need to do, because you have had to do it before. You may doubt your ability to do what you need to do, but there is no need to doubt.

If you could do it once before, you can do it again.

"Yes It Does Get Worse"

what my sponsor used to say that all the time

the 1st drink/ drug always leads to a drunk

my choice is between miserable unhappy drunken drinking/ drugging and all the loss, tragedy, misery that always goes with this disease

or

not taking 1 drink/ drug

2thru1 - I'm so glad you made your way back to us. I'm sure you're miserable at the moment - but there is a better life waiting for you. I know you have hope or you wouldn't have signed on. You can do this - and you're never alone.

Thanks Algorithm

Algorithm Thank You for reminding me that if I did it once, I Can Do It Again ! This thought has not occurred to me. I appreciate all that you said. I actually had more than 16 yrs clean. That was the number of years I had working in the feild as a Substance Abuse Counselor. I know that NA was a life saver for me.
This time it just seems so much "Bigger". However I know I need to attend meetings. I finally just got a car. No more excuses....right.

You are back and that is great.
We never shoot our wounded. We look after them and understand.

I agree with NA - if you can go, go.
You do not have to speak.
You do not have to tell anyone where you are going.
You will be welcomed.
You will be understood.

In my case, I met some people I really liked and it turned out they liked me too!!
Come on you can do this if you you want it.

You know the dangers of relapse for us. Probably much better than I'd be able to write it on here.
In short, in a lot of ways it IS bigger. And it certainly feels bigger while we're in it and we know better and know the dangers while we trap ourselves.
You CAN do this. Turn the heat up on your addiction. Throw everything you can at it. Counseling, meetings, reading, and sticking around SR. Stay away from using places and people.
Glad you're back. We're here for you
