Questions about treatment

So i have decided this is not enough and am having an assessment done next week. It is not where i want but it is where my insurance can send me. I am having a small problem with it already though. I am a drinker, i know this. I know its a problem and i am willing to address and do what it takes. I also know i have depression and anxiety issues. I take zoloft and xanax(as needed). I was hoping for a dual diagnosis place but this is not. They have told me that if they are to treat me i will have to change these meds that are FINALLY working. I have never been a pill taker and actually read and re-read labels before i take them. I never take more, if anything try to get away with lowest dosages. My panic attacks are real and i am fearful this will turn into my excuse to not go through with it. Anyone have this hurdle and what did you do. I completely understand strong viewpoints against this particular drug but please consider all i am saying before jumping to any conclusions. Really just need to know if i should consider treatment elsewhere in order to keep my anxiety at bay during this undertaking!

are you willing to do whatever is necessary for victory over alcohol?

Of course, that is not what i am asking though. Please dont doubt my intentions. Just trying to find options to help deal with panic attacks.

Yeah I wouldnt project too much into this. If you are anything like me, you are going to find that sobriety will take care of alot of the anxiety that you are experiencing. I still have some anxiety but it is situational and Im able to use alternative methods to cope with it.

Dont let anything or anyone keep you from going to the assessment. What will it hurt? If you find you need a different alternative, you can have the assessment transferred to another provider and wont have to do another one.

I think you need to speak to your prescribing physician about this before you sign anything.

Noone else - including any of us here - can advise you on taking, or not taking, your meds.

im not doubting your intentions, whatcouldbe. just reading " i am fearful this will turn into my excuse to not go through with it" had me concerned ya might let an excuse control your actions.

this is going to be a good thing for you. its going to help you improve your life and give you the tools to live. theres going to be some rough times whether at a DD rehab or salvation army rehab. but yer going to have professionals watching over you.
I still have depression that im on meds for. after some time sober the true problems were able to be seen and I was medicated properly.
and the anxiety is rarely ever there, after I got the tools to live sober.

Let's see what the assessment reveals, shall we? Meantime, keep taking the meds if they are helping. Don't have to tell you that alcohol is a short term solution, at best. Peace.

Hi
I can only give you my personal experience. I have seen treatment facilities, most recently a dual diagnosis facility, deny the use of adderal and benzos (xanax for example) for daily use. They administered benzos for detox but would taper people off them as their vitals improved. I have never seen a facility deny a non mind altering drug like an SSRI (Zoloft for example). I take seroquil for sleep....they wouldn't use my prescription while in the facility, but gave me my dosage out of their pharmacy. Anywho, maybe your prescribing dr can talk to their intake people about it. Tons of people take SSRI's so my guess is there is a solution there. But the xanax? Probably not. You might find that you won't need it over time once your body adjusts to no alcohol....really its not real different than taking a drink...just in pill form. But definitely talk with your dr.

My best advice is to talk to the dr who is prescribing the medication for you and explain the situation and see what he says.

That's great you have the devotion to do the right thing to move forward with your treatment. Your docs have you on meds for a reason. I'd stick with them, stay off the booze, and see what the place has to say.
