Last minute party tonight

It's that time of year.... Already.

Wife sprung it on me this morning. I didn't worry all day.
Until now.. as I'm getting ready.

I'm on my 9th day sober... Previous I had been 60+ days.. Then replapsed in October for several weeks. But I am in a good space now!

I am pretty sure I can do this... Since I made it through a couple parties already... including an out of town wedding in Sept. Although weeks later I slipped... Maybe feeling complacent?

Any who... I know another couple that will be there...My wife's friend. Her husband is a non-drinker. I found that out last Christmas. So thought I'd gravitate to him.

Plus.. It is only a few blocks from my house..... If it get's weird then I'm ditching the party. But I think it will be OK.

Later!
MR

The fact that it's close to your home is good. If things get frustrating bail without thinking.

I've been at a few parties and drinking events, sometimes I'm OK other times I find someplace to hide by myself until my wife is ready to leave.

It's funny when I was drinking I'd not really notice the drunk people or seem drunk myself. Now that I've sobered up the drunks stand out like a sore thumb. I wonder how much I was actually slurring the few times I noticed I was.

Wow, I've just written exactly the same thing almost word for word in the Daily Support Threads forum.

Isn't it so true!

Good luck MR, I hope you find your way home sober. :-)

Personally speaking, there's no way I would go at 9 days sober.

They say the definition of stupidity is to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.

I'd look carefully at the language you're using,

I am pretty sure I can do this...

I wouldn't have been able to do that, MR and it would have been way too stressful for me. I actually managed to get through (miserably) one neighbourhood party, but the seed was planted and I was out the next day buying wine. It's good that you will be able to leave if things get tough. I hope it goes well.

Well... I bailed early and I'm home.

It wasn't to hard... Lots of food to keep me busy!

Left early on my own... Wife stayed talking with her friends. All good.

Your sober muscles had a good work out tonight. Well done.

As others have said, probably best to avoid putting yourself in that situation so early in recovery. Why take the chance?

Well done. I have to say though that there's no way I could do it at only 9 days.

I hear you! In my "first" days of sobriety back in January ..I'd say the same ... But I have been "working" on my sobriety for over 10 months. With some slips and trips along the way.

But I'm still committed to not drinking hopefully forever.

I'm hoping the slips I had were all part of the "process" and my sober muscles are kicking in.

Last night was a good one... Now it's Saturday and football games.

Here's to a sober weekend !
