Sober, fell off wagon, back 2 years later

It's amazing to me.

Got sober for 6 months. Started to feel like I could go out and be social--I was so wrong. Now, almost 2 years later, I am back.

Suzie,

Imo...at least in my case....at 6 months I was still craving very hard.

I'm at 18 months and i still crave daily.

I drank to get drunk about 2 to 3 times a week at least.... in the end.

Normal folks don't do that. I can never drink again.

Drinking 3 beers and stopping for a month never worked for me.

My wife had half of a weak margarita in early October. That is the last time she drank. She has had 3/4ths of a bottle of wine in the fridge for 3 months.

Regardless of that, while I still crave, my health is way up.

BP normal, vision, skin, temperment, sleep patterns etc...way better.

Who needs booze. It is a slow acting addictive poisonous toxin.

Never drinking again. It is not my thing.

The only real obessing i do about it is here. This is now a habit.

This is a good place.

Thanks.

Same thing happened for me..... I made it 5 months, then relapsed for over a year and a half of worse-worse-then-still-worse.

Good news is since that time it's been nearly 3 years of sobriety and I have no desire or struggle with wanting to drink again. I'm grateful for my life and prefer sobriety to drinking for sure.

You can do it!

Here is what I did 18 months ago.

Stay full...Eat whatever you want.

Sweet stuff tricks the brain.

Binge watch tv.

Hydrate, sleep.

It gets easier.

Good to have you back with us, Suzie.

I did it too - had three years & thought I could have a glass of wine. Seven (yes, seven) years later I came crawling in here for help. I'm so glad you didn't let it continue - you will do it this time - keep posting.

Hi Suzie,

Welcome back!! I have been sober for ten months, but on SR since 2012.

I am sure Dee will be around to post his link about plans, and my past failures were due to my lack of one.

I check in on SR daily. I check in to the 24 hour thread, and I am also a proud member of the January class. I find that reading about others successes and struggles helps me. I also post each day, and try to support others.

In addition to SR, I journal, read, exercise, plan things with my kids.. Mindfulness is something I have really worked on during the past ten months. I am a worrier by nature, and staying in the present helps me control that.

Looking forward to seeing you on SR!!

❤️ Delilah
