Cravings hitting out of nowhere....

Going along just fine and about 1/2 hour ago a huge craving starting bubbling to the surface.

My usual thoughts....drop kids off at swimming, pick up vodka at liquor store, drink......

WTH!!??

They always do. Come out of nowhere.

Be prepared.

They do come out of nowhere and they will pass.

Make sure you drink plenty of non-Alcoholic fluids, sometimes a craving comes simply because you are thirsty.

Do you have a plan in mind for when a craving like that hits you? It's something to think about preparing for because the cravings do come out of nowhere.

Eat! There's no room for booze if your tummy is full

Yes! Eat a big meal, if you can. It helps. Also, ice cream helps.

You said it right there, your USUAL thoughts. For me that's an indicator of your habituated mind. It's literally a neuro pathway in your brain....kind of like a road you travel frequently. The more times you choose a different road (not drink) the weaker that habit becomes.
Good luck.

I think I am going to make it. I drank 2 glasses of water, ate some dinner, and am sitting here posting.

Anxiety kind of through the roof because I came so close and I can still feel the craving. UGH!

Oct,
I have to be very careful. If I let myself get to hungry or thirsty my brain turns it into alcohol cravings. A good healthy meal usually resolves things nicely

Thank you for this. I need to remind myself DAILY of this. I think I feel so weak and vulnerable when cravings hit largely because I am so unused to even trying to fight them. In the past I almost always went for booze without even hesitating. It's good to be reminded that I CAN retrain my brain not to react that way anymore.

Hmmm, good insight. I'd come from work parched and starving and in my mind telling myself a beer would fix that. Kind of explains my sudden need to stock pile mints in the car. I'm compensating without knowing it!

Well done Oct,

I crave nearly everyday between 2 and 6 pm....my witching hours.

I obsess, crave, and have anxiety. It passes.

Sitting here now 7 pm, sober, full, and almost ready to call it a night.

Feels good to not be a drunk anymore.
