10 days sober after 5 years of serious drinking!

Hello beautiful people. I am 25 years old & I have been an alcoholic since I was 20 years old. I have tried to sober up before, but it was always short lived. I put my family through hell when I drink & I am starting to feel a lot of pain in my left kidney & in my head as well. I know I have done a lot of damage to my organs & I feel so sad at the thought of the mess I have made with my life so far. But I am very optimistic & I have big dreams & I feel there is so much more life to be lived.

Guys I know you feel me when I say ..... I'm SICK & TIRED OF BEING SICK & TIRED!! I just wanna put time/distance between myself & my last binge! I wanna be proud of myself for once & bring joy to those around me. I wanna feel genuinely good about myself & hold my head up high knowing I accomplished one of the hardest things in life, sobriety. I WILL stay sober! One painstaking step at a time is how I am going to do it!

Can't wait to share my journey with you, & be a part of yours! All the best to y'all!

Let's get it!!

My friend, you are gonna be SO FAR ahead of the game if you quit now instead of waiting until you're 35 or 45 or 65 and have potentially done far greater damage to yourself and your life.

You will find a ton of support here -- encouraging, experienced, non-judgmental people -- and specific advice on action steps you can take to get and stay sober. Welcome to you!

Astik,

Awesome!

I believe if this site were around when i was 25, I would have quit as well.

The knowledge of what I was doing to my brain and how it would get worse and worse, mixed w how I was feeling, were what gave me the incentive to quit almost 18 months ago.

For me, while hell on earth, the first several months were lIke a new car. A fad almost. Once the newnes started to wear off of being sober, my av ramped up a bit.

It still nags me, like a baby, almost every day. But, I know, because of the info. Gained here, I will never go back out. I have sober mentors. I copy them.

I made a new sober lifestyle. We were not meant to be drunks. It is a learned behavior. It can be unlearned.

Thanks.

It's great to meet you, astik. 10 days is wonderful. What I wouldn't give to be 25 & getting sober. I went on for many more years of chaos. Glad to have you with us.
