So far so good!

I have been lurking for almost a year and finally registered today. Past attempts at sobriety and moderation have yielded mixed results, but at least I know now that quitting is not impossible, and will keep going.
Also a very nice surprise to see familiar "faces" from a previous (? no longer existing site), such as g'old MountainManBob! Glad to see you are still going strong and sharing your valuable experience and giving support.
What an amazing difference only 5 days has made! Will post on that as time goes on.
Looking forward to meeting more of you along the way. I now there is wonderful support to be found here.

I really appreciate all the replies and even a few private messages. Looks like I will have to make a few more post before I can reply to the latter, so just a general thanks for that. What a great and welcoming community! Hoping I will be able to help others as well, later on.

Thank you everyone! Day 8 done and I am very grateful, and because of that also ended up going to church yesterday morning for the first time in several weeks. Somehow I had less energy today than the previous couple of days, but I'm sure it will keep getting better (still not even remotely comparable to having a hangover!).
Also the cravings, although not too serious, were a bit stronger than on days 1 to 5, which surprised me, so I'm on my guard.
