While writing a recovery plan...

I suddenly got a huge craving to drink.. Got up and ate some ice cream (As per recovery plan)... feeling more confident, back to recovery plan. Is this normal???

You're going to have lots of cravings to drink. Some will be triggered, some will be predictable, some will be random and completely out of the blue.

That's what your plan is for (and very well done on dealing with it) to have coping mechanisms in place to handle every craving that hits you, and to learn to identify your triggers for the really bad moments.

Good job

Great job on dealing with the craving and not caving in!

I think it's normal in the early days to think of drinking whenever we feel uncomfortable, and writing a recovery plan certainly would make a part of us very uncomfortable.

I look forward to seeing what else your recovery plan entails besides ice cream GG

My faves in the arsenal are sour soothers, gummy bears, jalapeno jack links beef jerky, and gallons of ginger ale. And bubbly water. And gum.
(and shhhh.... cigarettes. Just for now )

Are you thinking of any programs to work, support groups or networks, counseling?

Myself I am an, try everything at the recovery buffet, type person.

It's very common. I've read that many times alcohol cravings are actually just sugar cravings as alcohol reacts in the body the same way as sugars, so often times going to town on some ice cream or candy can curb the cravings.

Great job thinking through that craving, and getting the ice cream! What does your plan look like?
