Weekender Thread 22-25 September 2016

To The Weekender Thread for

22-25 September 2016

Hi and welcome to the Weekender Thread!

'New Management' maybe but you guys are the same

The weekend can really be a troubling time in early recovery - and sometimes later too.

Anna and I want this thread to be the safe welcoming place for newcomers it's always been.

As you will see....I'm not as good as Ken with the themed posts so if anyone wants to contribute their thoughts, or anything else, please let me know by PM for next week.

thanks guys!

One of the great things about getting sober was getting my weekend back.

When I was a kid in the seventies weekends were special.

They were like a blank sheet of paper, fresh and new... a panorama of possibilities spreading out in every direction as far as I could see.

Monday seemed a million miles and a thousand years away.
The only limit was my imagination.

I lost all that later on...the weekend was the blackout bit between Friday and Sunday night....then Thursday night, then Wednesday...

It's been a real joy for me to my weekends back.

I may not spring out of bed like I used to, but that same anticipation, that same exhilaration... that same feeling of anything and everything is possible has returned to me.

do you guys identify with that?

Bueller? anyone?

I completely relate to that. One of the lines I use in my commencement speech each year is "your life is a blank page, have fun writing all over it." Your post reminded me of that, and it is definitely how u approach weekends and vacations now. It is nice to wake up with a clear head and to be present for my kids whatever we may be doing.

I'm guessing shotgun is the first person to write on the thread? That'll never be me then as I am as slooooowwwww as a tortoise.

Which reminds me of a chat I had with a friend. She laughed at me as I pronounce tortoise as it is spelt while she (and most other people I know) pronounce it tor-tus.

Anyway, that has nothing to do with the topic in hand!

Ah, weekends. Usually spent drinking Saturday and recovering Sunday. Well, Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.” to quote Edgar Allen Poe

I think I shall make that my weekend motto.

Nevermore will alcohol afflict my weekend.
Nevermore will I reach Sunday evening feeling guilty about what I haven't achieved
Nevermore will I spend Sunday watching replays of programs that had been on on Saturday night but I didn't actually 'take them in'

Weekends have been a major problem for me starting Friday after work and early Saturday drinking before eating or doing anything else. I will definitely check in here Friday after work.

Greetings weekenders. Congratulations on shotgun Delilah.

This thread is a great idea and a wonderful place. It really helped me in my early days to connect with other folks working at making it through the weekend sober. Pipe in, talk about your struggles, and support others. Support, above all things, is a great predictor of success in our endeavours.

I wish everyone the best of luck this weekend - you can do this!

Evening, all.

Thursday done and dusted - just about to head off to my yoga class for some stretching and meditation. Sweet.

The weekend. So much promise in two little words, dontyathink? The world is my mollusc to do with as I see fit. Looking forwards to it already.

Horrible week. Had a nervous breakdown yesterday. I can't stay any more at the place where I live, and my own apartment isn't suitable for living yet -it is basically shell and core. I have no money to complete works there, and I have an upcoming legal battle with banks. My paycheck is cut to the minimum for me -just enough for food and utilities. I can't focus on work. I just don't know how to live like this any more.
